Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a science based treatment based on the precise knowledge of anatomy, physiology, neurology, bio-mechanics, pathology and clinical medicine.  The osteopathy understand that the human body is a vital organism where the structure and function are intimately related.  Our organism possesses the capacity to cure itself if we stimulate it in an adequate way.  This is the work of the Osteopath.

The physical body may find itself affected by many factors including physical activity or inactivity, bad postures, stress and negative emotions, illness, accidents, diet or environment etc.  All these dysfunctions influence the physiology an function of the body

What is the treatment?

Osteopathy is a manual treatment.  After diagnosing the problem the Osteopath will carry out a series of gentle stretching, rhythmical movements and sometimes massage to release tensions, improve circulation and lymphatic drainage and start the process of aligning the articulations of the legs, arms, trunk and spine.  This process is often described by patients as being pleasurable and relaxing.

If there is tension in the abdomen or thorax the organs affected may also be gently released using a skilled touch to encourage their release.

The effect of the treatment, as well as releasing discomfort, also improve function on every level.

Adjustments to the spine and other articulations are frequently applied to improve function and alignment.

Equine Osteopathy

Horses can also be affected by misalignments due to falls and stumbles and sometimes by faulty saddle. Sometimes certain sports have their toll on the horse such as wrong moves through jumping affecting the shoulders, a horse who holds his head to high can block his dorsal spine in dressage etc. Frequent blockages and misalignments occur in the spine and pelvis as well as the jaw and leg articulations. We can tell they have a problem if they appear "off" in training, have difficulty working on one rein or the other or start to have behavioral problems or are quite clearly lame.

Craneosacral Therapy

Our inherent rhythm known as the Primary Respiration can be affected for many reasons;

  • Birth trauma

  • Illness

  • Musculo-skeletal problems

  • Posture

  • Negative emotions

  • Accidents and  traumas

  • Stress

In answer to these factors our tissues tend to contract creating blockages.  These blockages can lead to the normal function of our organism being affected and create restrictions.

By using a gentle contact with the body in key areas the therapist can perceive these blockages and perceive the flow of vitality through the body! The therapist may also note if the tissues are inflamed or congested or rigid etc..... By understanding the origin of these states the therapist works with these conditions giving the body the opportunity to liberate them thus the energy and vitality of the body flows in the normal way.

I am a dressage rider.  I noticed how my horse started to feel tense whilst training. He wasn´t himself. Tonia revised him.  It turns out he had various blockages in his neck, shoulders, forelegs and lumbar spine. After he treatment he is looser and more relaxed and is keen to work.

Quiromassage
Quiromassage is a form of manual massage originating from Swedish massage and developed by Dr. Vicete Lino Ferrániz Garcia in 1920.
This therapeutic massage icludes a series of massage techniques used to treat neuromuscular and musculoskeletal conditions facilitating the elimination of toxins and activating the blood and lymph circulation and improving blood oxygen supply.

Massage is a form of manipulating the superficial and deep muscular structures using different techniques to improve their function, improve the healing process, diminish excessive reflex activity of the muscles, inhibitmotornueral excitement, promote relaxation and wellness.

Massage is probably the oldest therapeutic tool that humans have used as a natural resource against pain.  It's evolution and use and the understanding of structure and function has improved it's therapeutic usefulness over the years.
